Celebrating its 125th anniversary, Borussia erects a statue of a horse in its honor - Borussia marks the 125th anniversary of the Foal monument commemoration
Borussia Mönchengladbach's 150th anniversary celebrations kicked off on August 1, 2025, with a series of events designed to honour the club's rich history and legacy.
The centrepiece of the anniversary festivities was the unveiling of a bronze sculpture of a foal, symbolising the club's tradition, "Fohlenelf." The statue, weighing around 6 tons and standing 4.5 meters tall, was a gift to the club's loyal fans, according to marketing director Sebastian Otten. The sculpture was unveiled in a grand ceremony, with thousands of fans, along with legends like Berti Vogts, Günter Netzer, and Lothar Matthäus, watching the unveiling.
Club president Rainer Bonhof expressed his excitement about the 150th anniversary and having all the legends present, making it a special day. Berti Vogts was also honoured with a permanent, gold-engraved seat for life, joining an exclusive group that includes Günter Netzer and Jupp Heynckes. In addition, Vogts was named an honorary matchday leader for a friendly match against Spanish club FC Valencia, which will be the sporting highlight on Saturday evening.
The three-day anniversary weekend also includes a Fanwalk from the Old Market to the Borussia Park on Saturday afternoon, where fans will have the opportunity to join in the celebrations. Comedian Arnd Zeigler will present a show created especially for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and ZDF presenter Dunja Hayali will host an official anniversary program.
The anniversary celebrations also saw the release of a special 125-year anniversary kit. The kit features a clean white base with elegant golden accents on the collar, cuffs, logos, and crest, paying homage to the club's origins on the Lower Rhine. The kit displays the slogan "UNSERE HEIMAT. UNSER VEREIN. UNSERE VERBUNDENHEIT." (translated as "Our home. Our club. Our unity.") which reflects the club's spirit and connection to its community. The club offered 3,000 premium boxed edition shirts at €249.95, while the standard anniversary kit became available starting August 1, priced at €95.
