Borussia Advances to Table Tennis Championship Final After Thrilling Semi-Final Victory

Borussia Düsseldorf secured their spot in the championship final of the table tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) following a nail-biting 3:2 victory over TSV Bad Königshofen. The series is currently "Best of three" with Borussia leading 2:0 after two matches.

The decisive match, played in front of 1100 table tennis fans, including around 50 from Bad Königshofen, saw Timo Boll, who has played for Borussia for 18 years, deliver a standout performance. Boll, who was named "Man of the Match", expressed that the atmosphere created during the game was a special and beautiful conclusion to his career.

The first match saw Timo Boll suffer a 0:3 defeat at the hands of Filip Zeljko (world ranking 148). However, Boll managed to avenge his defeat in the return leg, demonstrating his resilience and determination.

Jin Ueda from TSV Bad Königshofen also shone, winning two games and sharing the "Man of the Match" title with Boll. Ueda lost to Anton Källberg in the first game but won both matches in the second semi-final.

The doubles matches were not without drama. The Borussia pair of Boll and Källberg outplayed the Königshofen pair of Steger and Martin Allegro, who lead the TTBL doubles ranking.

The final score of the second semi-final was Borussia Düsseldorf - TSV Bad Königshofen 3:2. Dang Qiu (world ranking 10) secured Borussia's place in the final by defeating former Borussia player Bastian Steger, a repeat of his win from the first leg.

The final will take place on June 15 against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen in Frankfurt. Borussia head coach Danny Heister fielded the same team in the same order as the first leg, while TSV coach Koji Itagaki also fielded the same team in the same order.

Throughout his career, Timo Boll has achieved significant successes with Borussia Düsseldorf, particularly in the Champions League and German championships. He has won the Champions League with Borussia Düsseldorf multiple times—in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.
