Get your popcorn ready, football fans! Borussia Dortmund is gearing up for the Club World Cup, but it's a small league of pros taking the pitch for now. Coach Niko Kovac recently called up a handful of veterans for the team's initial under-the-radar practice sessions after a brief vacay. Despite making an appearance, defender Niklas Süle was sent packing due to an unexpected bout of sickness.

A handful of A-youth talents joined in to beef up the crew, but it remains to be seen if young guns from this group will jet off to the USA on June 13.

National teammates won't join the fun until next week, as about a dozen players are still representing their countries.

The squad config for the Club World Cup is shrouded in mystery. BVB has its sights set on Jobe Bellingham, the brother of former Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, from AFC Sunderland. But it's up in the air whether a deal can be struck by June 10, the closing date of the special transfer window for Club World Cup participants.

As for loan players, Carney Chukwuemeka, currently on loan from FC Chelsea, is expected to make the trip to the USA, even though his contract situation post-June 30 remains unclear. There's a possibility the loan term will be extended until the end of the tournament. Without a doubt, Chukwuemeka is slated to participate in Dortmund's prelim matches.

Defender Soumaila Coulibaly, out on loan to Stade Brest, is expected to get back early due to an adductor injury, but game time hasn't been an option. A premature return of loan players Youssoufa Moukoko (OGC Nice) and Sébastien Haller (FC Utrecht) isn't on the agenda.

In the Club World Cup prelims, Dortmund faces off against Fluminense from Brazil in New Jersey on June 17, against Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa in Cincinnati on June 21, and against Ulsan HD from South Korea in Cincinnati on June 25.
