Borussia Dortmund (BVB) is set to bid farewell to one of its greatest players, Mats Hummels, in a friendly match against Juventus Turin on August 10. This friendly will mark the season opener for both BVB and the Italians.
Hummels, aged 36, played a remarkable 508 competitive matches for BVB throughout his career. He won two Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals, and reached the Champions League finals a total of four times while donning the Dortmund kit.
Initial rumors suggested that Hummels would join BVB for a short-term contract to compete in the Club World Cup, but the club ultimately decided against it. Following speculation, Hummels announced his retirement a few weeks ago.
Hans-Joachim Watzke, BVB CEO, once stated that Hummels is one of the best players BVB has ever produced. The 83-time national player has also spent time with FC Bayern Munich from 2016 to 2019.
