Borussia Dortmund Announces Leadership Roles for Upcoming Season
In an announcement made following a successful 8-1 friendly win against Sportfreunde Siegen, coach Niko Kovac has revealed the leadership structure for Borussia Dortmund for the upcoming season.
Emre Can, who joined the team in 2020, will take on the role of captain in the Bundesliga. The German midfielder will be supported by two vice-captains - Julian Brandt and Nico Schlotterbeck.
Can, who assumed the captaincy role starting from the 2023–24 season following Marco Reus' step down, has shown consistent leadership qualities and has been a key player for the team. Brandt and Schlotterbeck, both established players in the squad, will serve as vice-captains alongside Can.
Kovac expressed his satisfaction with the current leadership group, stating, "Things will stay as they are. There is no reason to change anything." He further added, "The players are doing a great job."
This decision reflects Kovac’s confidence in the existing captaincy group to lead the team effectively for the new season. The continuity in leadership is expected to provide stability and consistency to the team as they prepare for the upcoming challenges.
