Borussia Dortmund (BVB) is on its way! Excitement lurks for an enthralling match!
The Westphalia Cup is set to feature an exciting first-round match, as regional league side SV Thülen will host Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, September 4. This quick rematch ("schnelles Wiedersehen") for Thülen against Dortmund was confirmed by the Westphalian Football and Athletics Association announcement on July 9, 2025[1].
The unusual kick-off time of 6:15 PM is due to the lack of floodlights at SV Thülen. The match will not be played at night to ensure fair play for both teams. The match was not originally scheduled to take place at SV Thülen's modest sports facility in the northeastern part of Brilon, but negotiations with Borussia Dortmund have resulted in the match being held at Thülen's home ground.
Interestingly, Borussia Dortmund had offered to swap the home advantage and play the game in the Stadion Rote Erde, but SV Thülen coach Sebastian Werth managed to get their proposed date implemented.
SV Thülen, under new coach Markus Högner, is aiming for promotion. In the last matchday of the 2024/25 season, Thülen put up a great fight against Borussia Dortmund in a 2:4 defeat.
Meanwhile, former Thülen player Nora Willeke from Marsberg has been playing for Borussia Dortmund since 2024. This season, Frederike Kempe from Meschede, previously of RB Leipzig, joined Borussia Dortmund, adding more star power to their roster.
The winner of the match between SV Thülen and Borussia Dortmund will advance to the next cup round. The Westphalia Cup next round will also feature the winners of the match between Westphalia League side FC Schalke 04 and regional league side 1. FFC Recklinghausen.
