State governor's disclosure averses potential harm to legislative body, the State Parliament - Borns' disclosure is preventing harm to the Landtag.

In a shocking turn of events, Daniel Born, a prominent member of the SPD party in Baden-Württemberg, has resigned from his positions as deputy parliamentary president and left the SPD parliamentary faction following the Hakenkreuz (swastika) scandal.

The scandal came to light after Born admitted to noting a swastika next to the name of an AfD member during a secret vote on Thursday. This action, which is deeply offensive and contravenes the principles of respect and inclusivity, has caused significant damage to the state parliament.

Following the admission, both the state parliament president Muhterem Aras (Greens) and Born's own party requested his resignation. Despite this, Born has decided to keep his seat in the state parliament until the end of the legislative period.

The Hakenkreuz Affair is now a matter of public investigation, with Born himself under investigation. The Greens' politician, Winfried Kretschmann, who is also the head of the state parliament and Minister President, has remained cautious about commenting on the matter.

Kretschmann stated in Stuttgart that it is not his job to make comments from the sidelines regarding Born's seat in the state parliament. He did not comment on the question of Daniel Born's resignation, emphasising the ongoing investigation.

However, Kretschmann did express his belief that the damage from the Hakenkreuz Affair now stays with Daniel Born. He further stated that by taking responsibility, Born has deflected further damage from the state parliament.

In a show of remorse, Born has also announced that he will not accept party positions or run again in the next state election. This decision, while not undoing the damage caused, demonstrates a willingness to atone for his actions.

As the investigation continues, the future for Daniel Born in Baden-Württemberg's state parliament remains uncertain. However, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respect and inclusivity in political discourse.

The Commission, in light of the current events, is therefore proposing that the Council should adopt a common position on the development of a policy-and-legislation to address incidents of discrimination and intolerance, such as the Hakenkreuz Affair, in politics and general-news contexts, to uphold the principles of respect and inclusivity.

The ongoing investigation into Daniel Born's actions and the subsequent resignation from party positions, underscores the need for such legislation, serving as a cautionary tale for all political actors.
