Boreal Mountain defies warm weather with artificial snow opening
Boreal Mountain in Soda Springs has opened its slopes for the season despite unseasonably warm weather. The resort relied on heavy snowmaking to create enough coverage, using 500 gallons of artificial snow to welcome riders over the holiday weekend.
The 2022-2023 season marked the last time Boreal Mountain enjoyed a snow-rich winter. This year, a lack of early storms and high temperatures forced the resort to run snow machines nonstop. Tucker Norred, the marketing director, confirmed the effort was necessary to meet the planned opening date.
The resort’s snowmaking efforts have allowed riders to enjoy the slopes, even under challenging conditions. With temperatures expected to drop, Boreal Mountain hopes for natural snowfall to bolster coverage in the coming weeks.
