Casual Chat with Jannik Sinner
Bordighera's Stint with the Repentant - A Chronicle of Times
A tennis titan in the making, Jannik Sinner, fondly reminisced about his formative years at the Piatti Tennis Center, under the tutelage of Riccardo Piatti and his team. In an interview with Eurosport Italia during the Roland Garros at the French Open, Sinner mentioned his fellow coaches, Andrea Volpini, and Luka Cvjetkovic, and their invaluable impact on his career.
The Masters They Bestowed
When asked about the most significant lesson he learned from Piatti, Sinner humbly acknowledged that everyone he worked with had a part in shaping him into the player he is today. Sinner cherished the years spent working with Riccardo Piatti and the impact they had on his career. He also shared moments with Andrea Volpini in tournaments and recalled close friendships with Giulia Bruschi and the entire staff during his time at the Piatti Tennis Center.
A Dream Realized
Sinner, a red-haired prodigy, set foot on the tennis courts of Bordighera facing the azure sea at the age of 13 and a half, with the snowy peaks of his hometown, San Candido, always in his sight and his boundless dream in his heart. He called Bordighera home for 7 and a half years, learning to play with power and precision. His days were filled with grueling workouts and silent concentration, his base at the Piatti Tennis Center. Sinner lived in modest accommodations next to the courts and even strung his rackets using a machine there.
In his free time, Sinner socialized with friends, enjoying a drink and some laughter in town. He kept a low profile, merely wanting to enjoy himself. Bordighera watched him grow into a champion, and now, as the number one player in the world, it looks upon him with pride.
Honorary Citizenship Awaits
The municipality is yet to confer the honorary citizenship upon Jannik Sinner. Councilor Giuseppe Trucchi proposed the motion in the city council unanimously last year, but it seems that the administrative process is taking longer than expected.
If approved, the council aims to send the proposition to the mayor to initiate the necessary procedures, provided they can obtain Sinner's favorable response. Trucchi believes that Sinner's exceptional achievements, coupled with his exemplary behavior, make him an excellent role model for the city's youth.
Jannik Sinner's rise to stardom can be attributed to his natural talent, astute guidance, and tireless dedication to the sport, turning the dream of every young tennis player into a reality.
Sinner, reflecting on his time at the Piatti Tennis Center, expressed his love for sports, particularly tennis, and credited the center for honing his skills in the sport. He cherished the camaraderie with fellow coaches, Andrea Volpini and Luka Cvjetkovic, and shared fond memories of tournaments and friendships.
Despite his meteoric rise to fame, Sinner found joy in simple pleasures during his free time, such as enjoying drinks and laughter with friends in Bordighera, where he spent formative years of his career. His achievements and conduct make him a worthy role model for aspiring tennis players in the city, leading to the proposal for honorary citizenship.
