On Friday, 17th October, from 19:30 to 22:30, the "LOKAL DEKOLONIAL" series will host an event at Kulturbar froelich & herrlich in the Westwing Leipzig. This unique gathering is a collaboration between Referat Internationale Zusammenarbeit of the city of Leipzig, the Federal Agency for Civic Education, Mosaik Deutschland e.V. Heidelberg, and the website, along with Karlstorbahnhof e.V. in Heidelberg.

The event will feature poet Volha Hapeyeva, performer Igor Shugaleev, and producer Marina Dashuk, and will be moderated by Hanna Harp. This diverse lineup promises an engaging exploration of Belarusian culture and identity.

Belarus, often referred to as the 'heart of Europe', has a unique national identity shaped by its in-between and non-binary aspect. Historically, it has functioned as a buffer zone, a fact that has significantly influenced its cultural and political landscape. The Belarusian word "kraj" can mean "edge", "land", or "homeland", reflecting this complex identity.

The event is part of the "LOKAL DEKOLONIAL" series, which aims to showcase perspectives on and from PostOst (post-Soviet Eastern Europe). Other events in the series include "LOKAL DEKOLONIAL: Framings, Namings, Solidarities - Bubbles between PostOst, Diaspora and Exile" and "LOKAL DEKOLONIAL: Pluralism in Exile - Between Tension and Solidarity".

The event will be conducted in English, German, and Belarusian languages, with German whispered interpretation provided during the event to ensure inclusivity. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and registration is required for attendance, which can be done via the calendar entry.

Join us for an evening of poetry, performance, and insightful discussions, as we delve into the rich and complex culture of Belarus. Let's break down barriers and foster understanding in this exciting event.
