In light of the escalating tensions between Thai and Cambodian troops, Commanders are working hard to maintain vigilance and manage the situation. Recently, Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, the Commander of the 2nd Army Region, paid a visit to the 21st Infantry Battalion of the Suranaree Task Force stationed at Prasat Ta Muen Thom.

Boonsin took the opportunity to encourage the troops, providing supplies such as rice and dry foods while offering words of encouragement. Grateful for the soldiers' dedication and outstanding ability, Boonsin emphasized that commanders at all levels continued to support them. He also warned against complacency and reminded them to stay informed, emphasizing that anything could happen at any time.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai reiterated Thailand's commitment to non-confrontation in resolving the dispute between the neighboring countries. The recent clash between Thai and Cambodian troops near Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani province, on May 28, resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier and injuries to several others, escalating tensions between the two nations.

To alleviate the situation, both sides have committed to avoiding further confrontation while waiting for discussions by the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC), which has already scheduled a meeting. Phumtham stated that Thai authorities have already held discussions regarding the matter, with the Chief of Defence Forces set to participate in the talks. He also noted that coordination with the Foreign Ministry, the Royal Thai Army, and the Royal Thai Armed Forces continues.

Regarding ongoing dialogue, Phumtham confirmed that continuous discussions between high-level ministers are taking place, with regular opportunities for engagement. He acknowledged the importance of regular meetings in maintaining stability and peace in the region.
