Border militarization between Mexico and the U.S. has become a factual situation

In a significant development, the Department of Defense has deployed Stryker combat vehicles and troops from the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Laredo, Texas, as part of ongoing border operations. The military presence is part of a broader effort involving over 8,600 active duty combat troops, armored vehicles, drones, helicopters, and surveillance equipment, with a budget exceeding $500 million.

The deployment, which began on June 30, 2025, includes establishing observation posts and enhancing detection capabilities along the border. These efforts are coordinated with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to strengthen border security. The deployment covers large segments, such as over 1,000 miles monitored by the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team alone.

The military presence in Laredo is part of a sustained and evolving border security strategy. Troop deployments and technological upgrades are continuing as of August 2025. Furthermore, the federal government is exploring the creation of new military zones or “national defense areas” near the border, including potential locations in Laredo and Zapata. However, the exact location for these zones remains unclear.

Elsewhere, there have been other notable incidents. In Cabo, two individuals, Xandro and Pablo, were allegedly kidnapped by police. Unfortunately, they were found dead, but no further details about the individuals or the circumstances of their deaths were provided. In Guadalajara, a video of a femicide has gone viral on social networks, while a Morena congresswoman, Alhely Medina Hernández, is being prosecuted for child abuse in Hidalgo.
