Border controls operation by federal police in NRW over the weekend leads to executions of arrest warrants
In a series of events, German authorities have apprehended several individuals attempting to enter the country illegally.
On Friday, a 32-year-old Ukrainian managed to evade a two-day prison sentence by paying a fine of 40 euros after being found guilty of an offense against the Law on Ordinary Offenses in Ukraine. The Ukrainian entered the federal territory via the A3 on a bus from Amsterdam to Vienna.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, a 45-year-old Algerian was checked by the Federal Police at the Niederkrüchten interchange on the A52. The Algerian was a passenger on an internationally operating bus coming from Brussels and heading to Warsaw. It was discovered that the Algerian was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Leipzig for aggravated theft.
On a separate occasion, on September 5, 2024, a 34-year-old Afghan was checked by the Federal Police at Viersen station. The Afghan presented an expired Dutch asylum document to the officers during the check. It was found that the Afghan was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Traunstein for illegal entry due to an arrest warrant. The Afghan had entered the federal territory as a passenger on the Regional Express 13 from Venlo to Viersen.
Following the police measures, the 34-year-old Afghan was taken into custody for further investigation and taken to the Federal Police Station in Kempen. The Afghan was formally denied entry and was handed over to the prison in Willich for imprisonment to serve a 59-day prison sentence or pay a fine of 590 euros.
The Algerian, too, was arrested and taken to the prison in Willich for his imprisonment, as he still had an eight-day remaining prison sentence to serve.
It is important to note that the Federal Police temporarily reintroduced border controls at all land Schengen internal borders on September 16, 2024, at the order of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
