Border Control Bust: German Federal Police Carry Out Arrest Warrants Under Temporary Enforcement of Checkpoints (in North Rhine-Westphalia)

On September 12, 2025, two individuals found themselves in the cross-hairs of the German authorities at different border crossings.

In the early hours of the morning, a 21-year-old Bulgarian entered Germany via the Elten-Autobahn border crossing on Autobahn 3. The Federal Police, who were on duty at the crossing, checked a vehicle carrying the young man and discovered that he was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hagen for theft. However, after paying a fine, the Bulgarian was allowed to continue his journey.

Later in the day, a 32-year-old Romanian woman was stopped by the Federal Police at Kranenburg on Federal Highway 9. The authorities had temporarily reintroduced border controls at this location, and after checking a vehicle registered in the Netherlands, they found that the Romanian woman was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kleve for driving without a license. Facing an eight-day prison sentence, the woman paid a fine of 480 euros to the Federal Police, thereby avoiding incarceration.

On September 13, 2025, a 30-year-old Dutchman entered Germany via Autobahn 3. He was a passenger on an international coach and was stopped at the Knauheide rest area. The specifics of his case are not yet clear, but it is known that he was not facing any immediate legal action.

The Federal Police Directorate, headed by Robert Hemmerling, is located at Emmericher Straße 92-94, 47533 Kleve. For further information, you can visit www.bundespolizei.de or contact the press inquiries department at Uwe Eßelborn at (02821) 7451-0 or [email protected].

It is important to note that the Federal Police Inspectorate Kleve, located at the same address, is responsible for maintaining law and order in the region.

The Bulgarian and the Dutchman were not the only individuals who encountered issues at the German border. The District Court of Würzburg had issued a warrant for the arrest of another individual, but details about this case are currently unavailable.

As the world continues to evolve, so does the need for effective border control. The temporary reintroduction of border controls on Federal Highway 9 in Kranenburg serves as a reminder of this fact. The Federal Police are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals crossing the German border.
