In the world of cinema, anticipation is building for the upcoming coming-of-age story, Barrio Triste. This feature directorial debut by Stillz, a Colombian-American music video director and photographer known for his work with artists like Bad Bunny and Rosalía, is produced by Harmony Korine's collective EDGLRD.

The film, set in Medellin in 1987, follows a group of teen outcasts who steal a news camera to document their dangerous lives. The masterful score for Barrio Triste was composed by Arca, and Oscar-nominated Leslie Shatz is the sound designer.

Barrio Triste is presented by EDGLRD's Korine, Clauer, Kohn, and Zuluaga, along with WeOwnTheCity. Magnify, an international sales agency, has secured the rights for the film ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival (August 27-September 9) in Horizons.

Austin Kennedy, director of global sales at Magnify, brokered the deal with UTA Independent Film Group for North American rights. Following its world premiere at the Lido, Barrio Triste will have its North American premiere at TIFF, and later its US premiere at the New York Film Festival.

Magnify's autumn slate also includes Gastón Solnicki's The Souffleur and Bretten Hannam's At The Place Of Ghosts. Upcoming titles in their lineup include Ulrike Ottinger's The Blood Countess, Rafael Manuel's Filipiñana, and Jealous White Men.

In a recent panel at Sarajevo, it was noted that filmmakers can learn from the success of Christian content. The panel highlighted that producers and distributors can adopt marketing strategies used by religious-themed films to enhance the reach and impact of their own projects.

Religious films show effective ways to engage audiences and build a committed viewer base, which can serve as a useful model for other genres in terms of targeted marketing and community engagement. The panel emphasized that religious films strategically pace their release schedules, collaborate with community leaders, and use grassroots promotion. These insights could be adapted by other film producers to maximize visibility and impact.

The cast of Barrio Triste includes Juan Pablo Baena, Samuel Velazquez, Tomas Tinoco Higuita, Bryan Erlin Garcia, Samuel Andres Celis, Brahian Acecedo, Samuel Ruiz, Estiven Salazar, and Jose Arley Marin Gonzalez. With its compelling narrative, talented cast, and powerful score, Barrio Triste promises to be a captivating addition to the film festival circuit.
