Boom in popularity for queer love songs
In the world of podcasting, a unique duo is making waves by challenging the status quo and bringing a fresh, queer perspective to the table. Charlie Morin and Lady Guidoune, the hosts of Between 2 Lips, have been clashing "fabulosque queer culture" with "beige and bland heterosexual culture" for a year now, and their podcast has been gaining popularity rapidly.
Between 2 Lips is a queer-themed podcast that focuses on the chemistry between two drag queens, Mona de Grenoble and Rainbow. The podcast is known for its raunchy and explicit content, discussing sex and parties, and its lack of filter allows for a better representation of queer communities, according to Mona de Grenoble.
The duo has attracted a significant following in just 15 months, both in the city and beyond. Straight people are surprisingly finding themselves laughing with Full Plumed, as Charlie Morin insists that their podcast is as "gay famous" as "straight famous," pleasing queers because they laugh with codes they know well.
Mona de Grenoble believes that Between 2 Lips helped her define herself as a comedian, and it has boosted its popularity, helping Mona de Grenoble and Rainbow develop their contacts and create an audience. On July 29th, 900 people attended the recording of new episodes of the podcast at the Olympia in the Village.
Charlie Morin will be performing in Des gags et des paillettes on August 5th and 6th at 7 PM at the Théâtre Le National, while Rainbow will be at the 100% Drag event on August 7th, at 7:15 PM, on the esplanade of the Olympic Park.
Anne-Sarah Charbonneau, a comedian who often performs as the opening act for Katherine Levac's tour, states that the podcast helps her question her artistic approach and embrace who she is and the subjects she wants to talk about on stage.
The duo will record an episode of their podcast at the ComediHa! Club in Quebec City on August 15th. Anne-Sarah Charbonneau and Florence Nadeau, the hosts of Not So Humble, aim to create conversations they would have liked to hear in their youth, providing queer perspectives on religious texts, interviews with LGBTQ leaders, and challenging traditional teachings.
Meanwhile, several other podcasts are also making a significant impact on the LGBTQ+ community. Podcasts like The Hidden Bookcase, Queer Discourse, Reading the Rainbow, and Queer News are amplifying queer voices in literature, exploring queer books and ideas in depth, bringing attention to great queer stories across genres, and providing up-to-date queer news and stories, contributing to political awareness and community engagement.
These podcasts collectively increase visibility and representation of queer experiences in diverse domains—arts, spirituality, health, and politics. They provide safe spaces for conversation, challenge stereotypes, support mental wellness, and influence how queer stories and issues are covered in mainstream media, thus shaping the broader entertainment industry and fostering community empowerment.
