Quebec Booksellers' Prize Awarded to Sébastien Dulude for Novel Amiante

Montreal, Quebec - Author Sébastien Dulude received the Quebec Booksellers' Prize for his novel Amiante during a gala hosted by the Association of Quebec Booksellers on Thursday evening. The event took place at the Cabaret Lion d'Or.

Laila Maalouf, a site reviewer, reported that Dulude, visibly moved by the award, expressed his commitment to creating connections with readers through his writing. He shared his excitement about writing another novel for his audience.

Amiante was published last August by La Peuplade and is inspired by Dulude's childhood in Thetford Mines during the 1980s. The novel was also a finalist for the Quebec Students' Prize and featured on several French competition shortlists.

Competing nominees included Peuple de verre by Catherine Leroux (Alto), L'irréparable by Pierre Samson (Héliotrope), Hexa by Gabrielle Filteau-Chiba (XYZ), and Je vous demande de fermer les yeux et d'imaginer un endroit calme by Michelle Lapierre-Dallaire (La Mèche).

Michelle Zauner, the author of Pleurer au supermarché, received the award for foreign novels, short stories, and essays. Zauner, known as the singer and guitarist of Japanese Breakfast, traveled from New York State to accept the award and expressed her love for Montreal, one of her favorite cities.

In the essay category, Simon Paré-Poupart took the prize for Ordures ! - Journal d'un vidangeur (Lux). Axelle Lenoir won the award for the Quebec comic strip scene with Passages secrets, tome 1 - Trompe-l'œil (Pow Pow).

In the non-Quebec comic strip category, Kristen Radtke was present to receive the award for her album Seek You (translated by Myriam Héritier and Gaëlle Cogan at Quebec Amérique).

The event also honored Annie Proulx from the Librairie A à Z in Baie-Comeau, who received the Prix d'excellence from the Association des libraires du Québec. Winners of the Prix des libraires du Québec received bursaries ranging from $3,000 to $10,000.

Sébastien Dulude's winning novel, Amiante, being a finalist for the Quebec Students' Prize and featuring on several French competition shortlists, showcases its presence in French literature. In addition, Michelle Zauner, the author of Pleurer au supermarché, expressing her love for Montreal, indicates her affection towards the French-speaking city.
