Cathy Hummels' book project with her sibling hits a snag
Cathy Hummels and her brother were working on a book about depression, with a publisher even revealing the book's cover. Unfortunately, the project's currently on pause due to some fuss surrounding her brother's academic credentials. Cathy's lawyer, Stefan Ventroni, shared that the publication and her brother, Sebastian Fischer, have decided to halt the project together. However, the publisher's lawyer, Ralph Graef, claimed it was the publisher themselves who terminated the contract due to the dubious foundation for publication given the current circumstances.
Known as an influential figure in the health and mental health sector, Hummels intended to publish a book titled "Out of the Shadows - Your Way Out of Depression" with her brother, a medical practitioner. The cover displayed Fischer's name with a doctoral title, but in fact, he didn't possess one.
Following reports from "Bild" newspaper, the publisher initially removed the cover showcasing the planned book publication. The publisher mentioned in early July that they had no signs suggesting concerns about Fischer's unfinished dissertation until recently. "We conducted media research and an inquiry to Fischer, confirming he doesn't have a doctoral title at present," the publisher shared. Consequently, the cover was eliminated from their databases.
Hummels had also referred to her brother as a "Doctor" on Instagram. However, she clarified through a press release issued by her lawyer in early July that she didn't intend to deceive anyone with this label. "I referred to my brother as 'Doctor' on Instagram in 2018, assuming that every doctor deserved this title," she explained. She emphasized she didn't aim to misrepresent facts but rather recognized his occupation as a medical professional.
Despite the difficulties, Cathy Hummels and her brother still aspire to release a revised version of "Out of the Shadows - Your Way Out of Depression." In the interim, Cathy continues advocating for mental health awareness via her social media platforms.
