Cathy Hummels' book project hits a snag with publishing company
Cathy Hummels and her sibling were working on a book about overcoming depression, and a publisher had already revealed the book's cover. Sadly, the project's now on hold due to some controversy surrounding Hummels' brother's academic credentials. Hummels' lawyer, Stefan Ventroni, stated that the publication and her brother, Sebastian Fischer, have decided not to proceed with the project jointly. However, the publishing company, Südwest-Verlag, through their lawyer Ralph Graef, mentioned that they were the ones to terminate the contract due to the lack of concrete evidence for publication given the current circumstances.
Cathy Hummels, a well-known influencer, had planned to publish a book titled "Emerging from the Shadows – Your Path Out of Depression" with her brother, a medical professional. Unfortunately, the cover released showcased Fischer's name with a doctoral title, although he didn't actually hold one.
Following investigations by "Bild" newspaper, the publisher initially took down the cover showcasing the planned book publication. Südwest-Verlag revealed in early July that they hadn't noticed any indications until recently to cast doubt on Fischer's unfinished dissertation. "Upon conducting media research and an inquiry to Fischer, it was confirmed that he currently doesn't hold a doctoral title," the publisher said. The cover was subsequently removed from their systems.
Hummels had affectionately referred to her brother as a "Doctor" on Instagram. However, she clarified through a press release sent out by her lawyer in early July that she hadn't intentionally misrepresented the facts. "I referred to my brother as 'Doctor' on Instagram in 2018, under the widespread misunderstanding that every doctor carries that title," she said. Adding, "I didn't aim to mislead anyone but simply acknowledged his profession." Hummels also mentioned, "For many, 'doctor' and 'medical doctor' have been used interchangeably as nothing more than a job title."
Despite the obstacles, Cathy Hummels and her brother still aspire to release a revised version of "Emerging from the Shadows – Your Path Out of Depression." In the meantime, Cathy continues to advocate for mental health awareness through her social media platforms.
