Bombing with explosives in Tepalcatepec, Michoacán caused the deaths of at least a dozen livestock animals
In the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has been responsible for a series of explosive attacks, resulting in cattle deaths, military casualties, and the presence of unexploded devices. These attacks are part of ongoing cartel violence in the area, where the CJNG is active and frequently clashes with rival groups and security forces.
The CJNG, headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho", has been using explosive devices to intimidate local populations and rival groups. The attacks have caused significant damage to livestock, with at least a dozen cattle reported dead from explosions. Military personnel operating in the area have also suffered casualties, with a soldier seriously injured during an attack and another soldier losing his life while receiving treatment.
Unexploded ordnances or devices have been found in the region, posing continued risks to security forces, civilians, and livestock. The CJNG has been planting explosive devices on dirt roads and rural paths, such as the one connecting Cerro de Los Horcones with La Bocanda.
The entrepreneur in the affected area has requested help from the Mexican Army to secure his cattle from further explosions. The Army has responded, detonating two additional unexploded explosive devices to ensure safety.
These attacks have been ongoing in Tepalcatepec for a week, with the CJNG using their strategic control of the mountainous part of the town to their advantage. The Tierra Caliente region is a contested zone, with criminal groups vying for control. The CJNG often employs violent tactics such as blockades, gunfire, and explosives to assert control.
While detailed, up-to-date news sources on these specific attacks were limited in the search results, the pattern aligns with CJNG’s violent behavior reported in Michoacán over recent years. The CJNG's use of explosives, firearms, and grenades is consistent with their activities in Michoacán and other states, where they are heavily armed and dangerous, conducting drug trafficking as well as violent operations.
