Felix Magath, a legendary figure in German football, has announced his bid for the presidency of Hamburger SV (HSV). Known for his emphasis on physical fitness and his coaching tenure with several top clubs, Magath has a strong connection with HSV, having played for the club and led them to three championships and the decisive goal in the 1983 European Cup final against Juventus Turin.

Currently, HSV is in a strong position, leading the 2nd league and in a direct promotion spot. However, Magath has yet to reveal details about his program for the presidency. His candidacy will be contested in the election on June 21.

Magath's bid for the presidency has garnered support from a significant portion of HSV's fan base due to his past achievements with the club. The traditional club, with around 120,000 members, is the eighth-largest sports club in Germany.

Magath's running mate for the election is former goalkeeper Richard Golz. The duo had planned to present a shared concept to help the club, but their candidacy was blocked by the advisory board, causing Golz to withdraw his own candidacy as well. The rejection prevented any formal campaign or platform disclosure.

Magath has previously been mentioned as a possible top figure at HSV in the past. He served as "Head of Soccer" at local second-division club Admira Wacker for a year in 2021. Despite the setback, Magath's impact on the club remains significant, as he led HSV to their last major title, the DFB-Pokal, in 1997.
