Bombing campaign over Kiev results in numerous casualties
In a devastating turn of events, Ukrainian cities have faced relentless attacks from Russian forces, resulting in significant casualties and damage. The most lethal of these attacks took place between the night of July 30 and 31, 2025, when Kyiv was subjected to a large-scale Russian aerial assault.
The assault on Kyiv resulted in at least 31 deaths, including five children, and injured 159 others. Among the deceased was a two-year-old child. Beyond Kyiv, at least seven other regions also suffered attacks in the same period, leading to at least 120 civilian casualties in one night.
The town of Chassiv Yar has been claimed by the Russian army to have been captured after more than a year of heavy fighting, according to the defense ministry in Moscow. However, Ukrainian military observers still mark western parts of Chassiv Yar as under Ukrainian control on their maps. The capture of Chassiv Yar could potentially open the way for Russian troops to advance towards the important industrial city of Kostiantynivka, which is a few kilometers away.
The frontline city of Kramatorsk has been targeted, with Governor Vadym Filashkin urging the remaining residents to flee to safer parts of the country as the frontline approaches. The Russian-Ukrainian front line is about 15 kilometers south of the city of Kramatorsk.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv was the main target of the Russian attacks, and he condemned Russia's response to Ukraine's desire for peace with America and Europe. In a bold move, Ukraine launched drone attacks on Russian territory overnight, causing a fire on the site of an industrial enterprise in the Penza region.
Despite the heavy casualties on both sides, the conflict continues to rage on, with no clear end in sight. The town of Chassiv Yar remains a point of contention, with both sides claiming control. As the world watches, the people of Ukraine continue to endure the devastating effects of war.
