Bolshoi Theatre sets historic performance in Istanbul, presenting twin ballet classics for the first time
The Bolshoi Theatre, one of the world's most renowned ballet companies, is set to make its historic debut in Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the Türkiye Culture Route Festival.
From September 26 to 30, 2025, the Atatürk Cultural Center will play host to two of the Bolshoi's most iconic ballets: "Romeo and Juliet" on September 26 and 27, and "Swan Lake" on September 29 and 30.
Accompanied by the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, conducted by Anton Grishanin, these performances will feature original sets and costumes transported directly from the Bolshoi's historic stage in Moscow.
The principal ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova, will dance the role of Juliet on September 26. Other principal dancers joining the tour include Artemy Belyakov, Egor Gerashchenko, Elizaveta Kokoreva, Alyona Kovalyova, Denis Savin, and Yulia Stepanova.
Approximately 350 people, including dancers, musicians, and technical staff, will participate in this cultural exchange, bringing authentic decorations and costumes from Moscow to Istanbul.
The productions are being organised by Art Seasons, marking a significant moment in the history of both the Bolshoi Theatre and Istanbul's cultural scene. This is the first time the Bolshoi Theatre troupe will perform in Istanbul, adding a new chapter to the rich tapestry of international cultural exchange.
