Bollywood Stars Endorse India-Pakistan Truce: Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Others Express Support for Peaceful Accord
Revamped Version:
India and Pakistan have clinked truces, calling a halt to hostilities following grueling discussions orchestrated by the U.S.
This move comes after a tense few weeks between the two nations, marked by military skirmishes and finger-pointing. The catalyst for this cold-war-like atmosphere was a terror attack in Kashmir, which India attributed to their neighbors, prompting retaliatory actions.
On Instagram, actress Kareena Kapoor expressed her approval by penning, "Rab Rakha... Jai Hind," accompanied by the Indian flag emoji. Raveena Tandon, another renowned actress, commended the ceasefire in her Instagram story, urging caution: "But let it be plain: India will bleed again-#statesponsoredterrorism-it will be an act of war."
Tandon also warned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to track their funds diligently, expressing her hope that India would never suffer again. She concluded her post with a note of solidarity: "My country's enemy is mine."
Other celebrities such as Parineeti Chopra, Malaika Arora, Karan Johar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Varun Dhawan also expressed their support for the ceasefire on their respective Instagram stories.
US President Donald Trump, via his Twitter account before it was banned, announced the ceasefire agreement, "After a night of back-and-forth mediated by the United States, I'm thrilled to confirm that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Here's to common sense and keen intellect prevailing!"
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the media during a press briefing, stating, "At 15:35 hours this afternoon, the DGMO of Pakistan spoke to his Indian counterpart. Both agreed on a ceasefire, effective from 17:00 hours IST."
Prior to this ceasefire, Indian forces conducted Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting areas along the Line of Control (LoC), in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam.
In the broader context, the U.S. played a pivotal role in brokering this ceasefire, a significant step towards diffusing the strained relationship between India and Pakistan.
