"Bollywood Newcomer Aryan Khan's Web Series Reviewed: Slick Production but Lacking in Intensity"
In the vibrant world of Bollywood, a new series has emerged, offering a fresh and satirical take on the industry's foibles. Titled "The Ba****ds of Bollywood," this seven-episode series is a rollercoaster ride through the glitz and glamour, the power struggles, and the underbelly of Bollywood.
At the heart of the series is Aasman Singh, a struggling newcomer played by Lakshya Lalwani. His first film is produced by the ruthless Freddy Sodawallah, portrayed by Manish Chaudhary. Aasman's character navigates a conflict between a contract with Freddy and his ambition to work with renowned director Karan Johar.
The series also introduces us to Jaraj, played by Rajat Bedi, a foul-mouthed uncle named Avataar Singh, played by Manoj Pahwa, who is terrific in his role, and Sara Ali Khan, who feigns her 'middle-class' traits. Bobby Deol oozes menace and warmth in his role, playing Ajay Talvar, the confrontational father of Aasman's love interest, Karishma Talvar, played by Sahher Bamba.
Salman Khan's character expresses concerns about becoming a father, while Karan Johar plays a self-important director, and Emraan Hashmi takes on the role of an intimacy coach. The series also features a star-studded awards-night spoof sequence, with appearances from Rajkummar Rao, Arjun Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Disha Patani, and Shah Rukh Khan.
Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan's son, is the creator, director, and show runner of the series. He has also written the dialogues and script, alongside screenplay writers Rajat Arora and Sajid Nadiadwala. The series takes aim at journalists, nepo kids, producers, and the underworld, offering a raw and unapologetic portrayal of the industry.
However, not all performances are stellar. Anya and Sahher, the actresses in the series, are strictly average, while Lakshya and Raghav, the actors from "Kill," carry the series efficiently. Mona Singh plays Aasman's mother and is a catalyst in the twist.
The UAE-India non-oil trade reached $38 billion in the first half of the year, but the real spotlight remains on "The Ba****ds of Bollywood," a series that promises to shake up the industry and provide a much-needed dose of reality in the world of Bollywood.
