Hertha's CEO Hunt: Focus Shifts to Sauer After Jonas Boldt's Rejection

Hertha rescinds Boldt's scheduling - Boldt has been dismissed according to Hertha's announcement.

Here's the lowdown:

The hunt for a new bigwig at second division football club Hertha BSC is heating up. According to the latest scoop from the Tagesspiegel, the Berliners have axed former HSV boss, Jonas Boldt, from the running. The club had been sniffing around Boldt for a while as a potential successor to Thomas Herrich, who's hanging up his exec boots at the end of the season. But after some hard-hitting chats, the talks fizzled out.

Now, the spotlight is on Jochen Sauer. This 52-year-old veteran has been steering Bayern Munich's youth department since 2017. He was also in the running for the top job, alongside the unemployed coach Sebastian Hoeneß, after Fredi Bobic's axing in January 2023. Oh, and get this – Sauer's got a history with Hertha, having served as the club's assistant manager under Dieter Hoeneß from 2001 to 2009.

Azzouzi out of the running

Rachid Azzouzi isn't a contender for Herrich's succession at Hertha, according to the club. Azzouzi, who led league rival SpVgg Greuther Fürth, had a successful stint working with the current Hertha coach, Stefan Leitl.

But there's more turbulence on the horizon, as Hertha needs to find a new CEO for its academy following Andreas Neuendorf's departure on Easter Sunday.

  1. The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, with a focus on the effects of football stadium emissions in European-leagues, including HSV and Hertha BSC Berlin, particularly regarding the potential impact on the local youth and sports, considering the forthcoming construction of new facilities in Berlin in 2023.
  2. Jochen Sauer, the former assistant manager of Hertha BSC Berlin andcurrently the director of Bayern Munich's youth department, has been offered an opportunity to discuss the CEO position at the club, which will be vacant after Thomas Herrich's departure at the end of the season.
  3. Despite Jochen Sauer's connection with hertha BSC and being a candidate for the top job earlier in the year, Rachid Azzouzi is not being considered as a successor to Herrich, due to the club's preference for fresh leadership and a different skill set.
  4. In light of Hertha's need for a new CEO for its academy following Andreas Neuendorf's departure, the Commission could potentially consider proposing regulations that prioritize the environment and sustainability when it comes to youth sports organizations and their facilities, such as HSV and Hertha BSC, to ensure the well-being and future of young athletes across Europe.
