### MNJTF Successfully Eliminates Key Boko Haram Commander in Lake Chad Region

In a significant development, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has successfully thwarted an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on their military base in Koulfoua Island, Lake Chad region, on July 15, 2025.

The operation, carried out under Sector 2, involved intense artillery and coordinated firepower bombardments that neutralised a key Boko Haram commander, Amir Dumkei, along with five other insurgents. The MNJTF troops also recovered nine AK-47 rifles, three boats, and a substantial cache of ammunition during the encounter.

The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, praised the courage and professionalism of the troops, expressing the operation's significance in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He reaffirmed the MNJTF's commitment to eradicating terrorism from the Lake Chad Basin, stating that this operation is part of their ongoing efforts.

The elimination of Amir Dumkei, a high-ranking commander, will likely disrupt Boko Haram's operational planning and leadership structure in the region. This tactical victory demonstrates the MNJTF's capability to protect its bases and counter terrorist attacks effectively.

The recovery of weapons and equipment will also hamper the terrorists' ability to launch future attacks, reducing their operational capacity. However, the MNJTF is currently pursuing the remaining terrorists who fled with gunshot wounds, aiming to ensure the area is completely secure. Ongoing clearance operations are part of the MNJTF's broader strategy to maintain security and stability in the Lake Chad region.

This operation aligns with the MNJTF's recent efforts to enhance security and stability in the region, including increased clearance operations and encouraging terrorist surrenders. However, the evolving use of technology by ISWAP, such as drones, poses new challenges for regional security efforts.

The MNJTF remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate terrorism from the Lake Chad Basin and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the region and its people.

  1. Despite the recent victory, the MNJTF is aware of the evolving threats in the Lake Chad region, particularly ISWAP's use of drones, causing new challenges in maintaining security.
  2. The Nigerian army, through the MNJTF, is currently pursuing the remaining Boko Haram terrorists who fled with gunshot wounds, aiming to secure the area fully.
  3. In the realm of Nigeria's general news, politics, crime, and justice, the elimination of a key Boko Haram commander, Amir Dumkei, by the MNJTF is a significant step in the war-and-conflicts category, potentially disrupting Boko Haram's operational planning and leadership structure.
  4. In addition to enhancing security operations, the MNJTF has been encouraging Boko Haram members to surrender in an effort to further reduce terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin.
