Boisterous banter from Jared Verse anticipated as Rams' pass rusher revisits Philadelphia
Los Angeles Rams' Defense Shines as Jared Verse and Byron Young Prepare for Philadelphia Showdown
The Los Angeles Rams' defense is off to a strong start in the 2022-2023 season, with eight sacks through two games, placing them third in the league in getting to the quarterback. This impressive performance is in part due to the contributions of second-year outside linebacker Jared Verse and his teammates, Byron Young, Leonard Turner, and Jordan Fiske.
Verse, a player known for his vocal and energetic demeanor, has been a constant feature in the Rams' locker room. His presence is helping create opportunities for his teammates to make disruptive plays. However, Verse's verbal abilities have also caused a false start in the Rams' season-opening win over Houston.
Despite this, Verse's history of trash-talking during football games is well-documented. He earned the ire and respect of Philadelphia Eagles' fans for his pre-game trash talk in January's NFC divisional-round playoff game. Verse has a long-standing dislike for the Eagles, which dates back to his high school days in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
Young, a typically quiet person, has been encouraged by Verse to be more outspoken and hungry. Verse's teammate Byron Young credits him for helping him become more expressive on and off the field.
In Sunday's return visit to Philadelphia, Verse and Young will face off against each other. Verse's pass rush skills have been impressive during his young NFL career, as shown by his two sacks and three tackles for loss in a postseason game. However, Verse has not recorded a sack or tackle for loss early in his sophomore season.
Chris Shula, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, will be counting on Verse and the rest of the defense to continue their strong play against the Eagles. Meanwhile, Verse maintains a mutual respect with the Eagles, despite his dislike, due to their professional conduct during their interactions.
Elsewhere on the injury front, WR Davante Adams and RT Rob Havenstein were full participants in practice after resting the previous day. However, Jordan Fiske (oblique) and Steve Avila (ankle) both missed practice for the second straight day.
As the Rams prepare to take on the Eagles, the spotlight will be on Verse and his trash-talking antics. Regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain - the game promises to be an exciting matchup between two talented teams.
