Vorpommern-Greifswald District's Boil-Water Advisory Remains

In light of ongoing drinking water contamination, a boil-water advisory has been extended in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, affecting twelve locations. The district's health department, after conducting tests, reported continuous E. coli bacteria presence, leading to the prolongation of the advisory, likely lasting until the end of the week.

The towns of Lubmin, Wusterhusen, Stevelin, Pritzwald, Konerow, Klein Ernsthof, Gustebin, Kräpelin, Vierow, Brünzow, Gahlkow, and Loissin Bungalowsiedlung are all within the advisory area. If E. coli bacteria are found, a potential health risk may arise. In the worst-case scenario, mild gastrointestinal irritation could occur, but beyond that, no significant health issues are expected.

Residents are advised to prioritize their nutrition, avoiding raw or undercooked foods to lessen the risk of E. coli bacteria exposure. The Zweckverband Boddenküste has suggested that personal hygiene, such as washing, showering, and bathing, can be maintained with unboiled water as long as ingestion is avoided and wounds are kept clean.

The origin of the water contamination remains unidentified. Although checks carried out at the responsible waterworks came up clean, additional testing is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by appropriate flushing measures.
