**"Alrighty then, it's a wrap for Fernando Gago at the helm of Boca Juniors," said the club's director Mauricio Serna with a sigh.

"Making this call wasn't a walk in the park, but it was necessary," Serna continued, with a hint of melancholy in his voice.

Gago, a homegrown talent who rose through the ranks at Boca, became the club's manager just last October. In his tenure, he notched up 17 wins, six draws, and seven losses. His recent loss to River Plate on Sunday served as the final straw.

Gago's job was hanging by a thread ever since Boca's Copa Libertadores second round elimination in February.

Given Gago's deep roots with Boca, Serna admitted, "It wasn't easy, he's one of us, but that's the gig - making tough decisions."

With Gago out, Boca will be on the hunt for a new coach before they jet off to the United States in June for the Club World Cup. In the meantime, Mariano Herrón, the club’s reserve team manager, will step up as interim head coach for their final league match against Tigre on May 41.

The club's leadership, including Juan Román Riquelme, are currently reviewing potential candidates such as Gustavo Quinteros, Gabriel Milito, and Cristian González for the permanent role3. The plan is to have a new boss in place before June rolls around2."
