"Bob Odenkirk shares insight on potential Saul Goodman reprisal in the Breaking Bad universe, expressing his confidence that the return would be impressive."
In the world of television, the characters we love often leave an indelible mark. One such character is Saul Goodman, the morally compromised lawyer played by Bob Odenkirk in the critically acclaimed series Better Call Saul.
It has been three years since Odenkirk last appeared as Saul Goodman in the show. However, the character's popularity has surpassed that of the original series, Breaking Bad, according to many viewers. This popularity has not gone unnoticed, with creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould capable of making a compelling prison-based show if they were to choose to do so.
However, there are currently no concrete plans for a prison-based spinoff of either Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. Odenkirk himself has expressed openness to reprising the role if creators Gilligan and Gould develop something, but he also emphasized that the showrunners have moved on to other projects and he doesn’t expect a revival anytime soon.
Odenkirk has stated that if there were to be another Saul show, it would have to be set inside prison because Saul Goodman was sentenced to 86 years in prison at the end of Better Call Saul’s final season. He reiterated that his character is not getting out.
Meanwhile, Gilligan is currently developing a psychological sci-fi drama called Pluribus, which has received a two-season order on Apple TV+ and stars Rhea Seehorn. Odenkirk has already had a sneak peek at Pluribus and has nothing but praise for the series.
As for Saul Goodman, he is currently serving his 86-year prison sentence. The series finale saw Saul Goodman confess to his role in Walter White's empire and the death of Howard Hamlin. Odenkirk stated in an interview that for him to return to the Breaking Bad universe, the story would need to reflect where viewers last left Saul in prison.
In a nutshell, while Odenkirk and the creators have not ruled out a prison-set continuation, the focus appears to be on new stories like Pluribus rather than reviving the Saul Goodman saga soon.
In the meantime, both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are available to stream with a Netflix subscription, allowing fans to revisit the thrilling world of these iconic characters whenever they please.
