Bo Svensson returns to FC Copenhagen as new head coach after disappointing season

FC Copenhagen has appointed Bo Svensson as its new head coach. The move follows a disappointing season under Jacob Neestrup, who left after the team failed to reach Denmark's championship playoff round. Svensson, a former player for the club, now returns to take charge of a side that has won four league titles since 2015.

Svensson's arrival marks a fresh start for the Danish champions. The 44-year-old, who played for FC Copenhagen between 1999 and 2006, brings experience from coaching German sides FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Union Berlin. His first training session with the team is scheduled for Tuesday.

The club has secured Svensson on a long-term deal, though the exact length remains undisclosed. His main task will be to restore stability and bring back the team's winning mentality. Among the players he will now manage is former Germany international Youssoufa Moukoko. FC Copenhagen's recent struggles contrast with its past success. The club lifted the Danish league trophy in 2015/16, 2016/17, 2018/19, and 2021/22. However, this season's failure to reach the championship playoffs led to Neestrup's departure and paved the way for Svensson's appointment.

Svensson's long-term contract signals FC Copenhagen's commitment to rebuilding. The new coach has set clear goals: improving team performance and reigniting the players' passion for the game. His first test will be preparing the squad for the challenges ahead.
