BMW Championship Betting Preview for the 2025 FedExCup Playoffs
The 2025 BMW Championship is set to take place at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, following an extensive renovation that has transformed the course.
Rory McIlroy, currently leading the field in driving distance, will be among the golfers vying for the title at the redesigned course. McIlroy has gained more than 21 strokes on the greens in his last four starts and is second in this field for SG: Putting over the last three months.
Another contender is Rickie Fowler, who has three T18 finishes or better in his last five starts and has gained strokes with his driver over the past five starts. Fowler also ranks among the golfers with odds to win the 2025 BMW Championship.
The first hole has been lengthened by about 100 yards, with the fairway dropped and the green shifted left, adding a subtle "dog leg" and making it much more challenging from the back tees. The second hole, traditionally a par 5, will play as a par 4 for the championship, stretching up to 525 yards from the back tee.
The fifth hole remains a drivable par 4 but with a reconfigured layout and now features what is described as the most challenging green on the course, only nine paces deep. This makes precision extremely important under tournament pressure.
A new precision air and drainage system has been installed beneath every green. This subsystem controls temperature and moisture levels to keep greens firm and fast, improving playability especially after rain, addressing past issues with soft greens.
The renovation focused on better drainage, strategic layout shifts for added challenge, and making the course more playable year-round amid the Mid-Atlantic climate challenges.
Ben Griffin, Matt Fitzpatrick, and other golfers with odds to win the 2025 BMW Championship will also be competing at the renovated course. Keegan Bradley, who snuck into the BMW Championship last year on the bubble and won, will also be in the mix.
Sepp Straka, who withdrew from the 2025 BMW Championship for personal reasons, will not be participating. Patrick Cantlay, who won the 2021 BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in a playoff against Bryson DeChambeau, will not be defending his title this year.
The top 30 golfers from the BMW Championship will earn a spot in the TOUR Championship, making the competition fierce. With the renovated course and top-ranked golfers competing, the 2025 BMW Championship is shaping up to be an exciting event.
