On March 20, 2023, 21-year-old Daniel A. was stopped by police officers Ralf K. (56) and Nils W. (43) in his father's BMW in Lübbecke at night. The officers noticed the scent of drugs and requested Daniel to step out of the car. However, as they leaned in, Daniel unexpectedly accelerated, trapping the officers and dragging them backwards for 66 meters. As he switched to driving forwards, Daniel sped off, tearing Chief Inspector Ralf K. from the BMW, leaving him seriously injured. His colleague also sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized.
The judge: "They wanted to prevent criminal proceedings for a drug offense and accepted the death of the police officers. They acted crudely and indifferently."
In the regional court of Bielefeld, Daniel A. was convicted of attempting to murder the two officers. As a result, he was handed a prison sentence. Plus, Daniel will give up his driving license for five years and pay his victims 42,500 euros in damages.
