Blues call up Kaskimäki for NHL debut amid injury struggles

The St. Louis Blues are set to call up forward Aleksanteri Kaskimaki for his NHL debut. The 21-year-old was drafted in 2022 and currently plays for the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds. His promotion comes as injuries leave the team shorthanded for the upcoming game against Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 1.

Kaskimaki was selected 73rd overall by the Blues in the 2022 NHL Draft. Now in his second AHL season, he has recorded 15 goals and 26 assists across 79 games. His defensive awareness has impressed Head Coach Jim Montgomery, who values his responsible two-way play.

Kaskimaki’s debut depends on his travel schedule, but he could take the ice against Anaheim. His defensive skills and AHL experience may help the Blues manage their injury crisis. The team will confirm his role closer to puck drop.
