The Blue Jays have taken a cautious approach to the health of their star first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has been sidelined with left hamstring inflammation and tightness. The injury occurred during the Blue Jays' game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Monday night, and Guerrero left the game due to the issue.

Although the severity of the injury is yet to be determined, the Blue Jays have described Guerrero as day-to-day, taking a careful approach to his return. Guerrero was given several days off and was reintroduced to playing activities, including running sprints and batting practice, by August 23. He appeared as a pinch hitter on August 24, signaling progress and reducing concerns about his absence.

The Blue Jays have been careful not to rush Guerrero’s return, resting him through a series against the Pirates and Marlins to avoid aggravating the injury during a crucial part of the season. In his absence, Ty France has been used as a pinch hitter and could potentially replace Guerrero as the everyday first baseman if he needs to be placed on the injured list.

The injury's management is significant for the Blue Jays as Guerrero Jr. is a key player in their American League East lead, and his health will be a factor in the tight division race against teams like the Red Sox and Yankees. With a five-game lead over the Red Sox, the Blue Jays are currently in a strong position to win the AL East, having built a lead that they have maintained despite Guerrero's absence.

The Blue Jays are seeking their first AL East title since 2015 and only their second since 1993. The Yankees, their closest competitors, are 5 1/2 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East. The Blue Jays' offense, which heavily relies on Guerrero Jr., will be keen to have him back as soon as possible, as his potential absence could significantly impact their chances in the AL East.

Guerrero Jr. has impressive statistics this season with a .298 batting average, 30 doubles, 21 homers, 69 RBI, and 83 runs. His return will be eagerly anticipated by the Blue Jays, who are aiming to clinch the AL East title and make a strong push for the playoffs.
