Toronto Blue Jays President and CEO Mark Shapiro Expresses Desire to Remain Beyond Current Contract

Mark Shapiro, the 58-year-old president and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays, has publicly stated his wish to continue his tenure with the team beyond his current contract, which expires at the end of the 2025 season.

During a media availability held at Rogers Centre today, Shapiro declined to comment in detail on contract extension talks with the Blue Jays. However, he confirmed that the team ownership, including Rogers Communications executives Edward Rogers and Tony Staffieri, share a reciprocal desire for him to stay.

Shapiro joined the Blue Jays in 2015 and has since developed a distinct appreciation for the city of Toronto. His tenure with the team spans 10 years, and he has conveyed strong appreciation for the people he works with and the city he serves.

Despite some uncertainty created by recent shakeups in Rogers Communications’ sports team leadership, Shapiro’s future with the Blue Jays remains an open but hopeful topic. The team's recent on-field success and extended competitive window, especially with star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. under a long-term contract, are positive factors favoring Shapiro’s continuation.

As of August 2025, no official announcement regarding a new contract has been made. The Blue Jays, who currently have the best record in the American League with a record of 69-50, are in the middle of a six-game homestand, with the first game being against the Chicago Cubs.

Shapiro has expressed a desire to remain with the Blue Jays beyond his current contract, but the details of any potential extension have not been disclosed. Nevertheless, the reciprocal desire from the team ownership suggests a positive outlook for the future of the Toronto Blue Jays under Shapiro's leadership.
