Blue Jackets activate Luca Marrelli after shoulder surgery recovery

The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Luca Marrelli from the Injured/Non-Roster list. After recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, the 19-year-old has now been assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. Marrelli was placed on the Injured/Non-Roster list on 27 September due to his shoulder procedure. Drafted in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, he spent the last four seasons with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). There, he tallied 30 goals and 141 assists across 254 games. Last season, Marrelli dominated the OHL playoffs with 36 points (6 goals, 30 assists) in just 21 games—leading all defensemen in scoring. His standout performance earned him spots on both the Canadian Hockey League Second All-Star Team and the OHL Third All-Star Team for 2024-25. Head coach Dean Evason made the decision to activate and assign Marrelli to the Monsters. The move comes as the Blue Jackets prepare to face the Vegas Golden Knights tonight at 10 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the game on FanDuel Sports Network, CW Columbus, or stream it via BlueJackets.com. Marrelli’s return to play marks a key step in his development after surgery. His assignment to Cleveland gives him a chance to gain professional experience in the AHL. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets continue their season with tonight’s matchup against Vegas.
