Blockbuster Box Office Success: Memorial Day Weekend's Big Earners - Mission: Impossible and Lilo & Stitch

🔥 Hollywood Blockbusters Steal the Show this Weekend!

Ready for a two-punch movie monster this holiday? We've got it all sorted for you - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and Lilo & Stitch, blowing the roof off theatres. And here's the kicker - according to Variety, these movies' insane box office sales have created the "largest Memorial Day holiday in history," raking in a staggering $341.7 million worldwide!

Lilo blew past initial predictions with a current domestic take of $145.5 million, showing Top Gun: Maverick a thing or two, overtaking its $160 million during all four days in 2022. Domestically, it ranks as the second-best holiday weekend opening behind Black Panther's $242 million during Presidents Day 2018. In no time, Lilo is expected to earn $183 million by the end of the four-day weekend. Not too shabby, huh?

Final Reckoning, meanwhile, opened to a $190 million worldwide spectacle. It's worth noting that it released a week prior in some territories, piling up $127 million of that fortune. By the weekend's end, its $63 million domestic take might jump up to $77 million, setting a new record for the Mission: Impossible series.

Both films have been hitting it out of the park with audiences and critics alike thanks to their nostalgia factor. Lilo is based on the beloved 23-year-old Disney classic, while Reckoning might just be the last rodeo for Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, or the final in the series.

Other holdovers like Final Destination Bloodlines, Sinners, and Thunderbolts still got a piece of the action. Variety reports it's been over a decade since people went to the theaters this much during Memorial Day, and a definite improvement from 2024's weaker showings of Furiosa and Garfield.

Summer's just heating up with Ballerina, How to Train Your Dragon, and 28 Years Later hitting the screens in June, followed by Superman and Fantastic Four in July.

Now's the time to spill your thoughts on Mission: Impossible and Lilo & Stitch. Have at it in the comments below!
