A significant traffic snarl-up on the A93 highway in Austria on Thursday was brought about by limited truck access due to Austrian border controls. At Kufstein's border checkpoint, a horse-shoe-shaped traffic jam of up to 13 kilometers stretched back towards Innsbruck, as reported by Rosenheim's traffic police.

Numbers of trucks were tightly curbed in Austrian territories during busy weekends, according to the Austrian police spokesperson, a move aimed at preventing road congestion. With only 300 trucks authorized to cross between 5:00 AM and 8:30 AM on Thursday, the already congested A93 saw a further slowdown on the German side. The following restriction is set for November 29.

Despite these restrictions, the region saw hefty traffic congestion as many motorists opted to journey along A93.

Construction and maintenance activities along the A93 bore primary responsibility for the recent traffic hassles. The passage for vehicles, especially those laden with trailers over 6.5m and buses over 13m, was blocked in phases. Cyclists were also rerouted via non-motorcyle friendly pathways during these phases.

Temporary closures and complex detours are anticipated during the construction phase, leading to high delays and travel time, especially for unfamiliar travelers. Sufficient alternative routes were available via public transportation in the Salzburger Sportwelt region but failed to meet expectations for motorists.
