Blizzards paralyze China, Romania, and US as snowstorms wreak havoc worldwide
Severe winter weather has disrupted daily life across multiple regions this week. Heavy snow and strong winds have stranded drivers, closed roads, and forced evacuations in parts of China, Romania, and the US. Authorities in affected areas are working to clear snow and restore normal services.
In northern China, blizzard conditions trapped vehicles and people under deep snowdrifts. Rescue teams in Xinjiang spent hours clearing a mountain road by hand after violent gusts blocked the route. Over 1,000 people were eventually evacuated or rescued, with crews using snowploughs, drones for monitoring, and emergency power supplies. Eleven individuals were taken to a temporary shelter following the operation.
Romania faced its second major snowstorm in a week, particularly in southern regions. Roads near Bucharest were closed, train services suffered long delays, and one runway at the capital's airport shut temporarily. Power cuts were also reported in several areas. Forecasters predict conditions will start improving from Monday.
Meanwhile, Connecticut is bracing for snowstorm Calvin. Road crews have begun salting routes, and snowploughs are on standby to keep highways clear. Residents have been advised to prepare for heavy snow and possible travel disruptions.
Mongolia is also battling extreme winter weather, with blizzard-force winds cutting visibility and temperatures dropping to -25°C.
Emergency teams remain active in Xinjiang, Romania, and Connecticut to manage the fallout from heavy snow. Roads are being cleared, stranded travellers assisted, and power gradually restored. The focus now shifts to ensuring safety as conditions slowly stabilise in the coming days.
