Totally Intense Summer Baking Germany!
Blissful summer approaching quickly
Get ready for some serious heatwave action, my friends! With summer's official start coming up, and the Corpus Christi long weekend around the corner for many, the weather gods have dropped a perfect gift on Germany - a long, sweltering, and sun-soaked week!
Björn Alexander, our esteemed meteorologist, shares the details: After a few initial hiccups in the north, we're now heading towards a sumptuous summer spread across the country. Expect the air to get warm, even hot at times, but remain dry, making the heat bearable. And best of all, nights will cool down enough to ensure we're well-ventilated, making way for a deck-ready, sun-filled daytime!
Sun and sunburn alert! Thursday's UV levels in the middle and south will be a high to very high 7 to 8. That's like, slather-on-a-gallon-of-sunscreen alert, especially in the Alps, where things get even hotter! The north, on the other hand, can breathe a sigh of relief, as UV values there will be more relaxed, from 3 to 6 (thanks to some compact clouds passing through on Thursday).
Need someone to bail us out of this sweltering situation? Don't count on Mother Nature just yet. The forest fire risk will steadily increase across the country in the coming days. By Sunday, we're looking at danger levels of 3 to 5 nationwide - with the highest levels from the Lüneburg Heath to the east and in parts of southern Germany.
But hey, worry not, because up until Saturday, the mercury will continue chilling out in the green zone. Thursday will see a slight drop in the windy north, with temperatures hanging around 18 to 22 degrees. But fear not, my friends, because it'll be sunny, tropical, and, you guessed it, summery on Friday and Saturday, with mostly 25 to 31 degrees scorching up the place. The coast will remain a refreshing 22 degrees in the sea breeze.
Heading southward for a weekend escape? Southern Europe definitely has the hottest temperatures of the season. Expect to sizzle in the 35 to 42-degree range, with places in France also heating up to around 35 to 38 degrees, including tourist-magnet Paris. After that, the hot air will migrate over here, potentially unleashing temperatures of up to or over 35 degrees by Sunday and Monday.
Looking for the hottest spots? The west, especially the Rhine and its tributaries, will be the furnace, with temperatures potentially hitting 38 degrees in some areas. Elsewhere, temperatures will hover around or over 30 degrees. Only the coastal areas have a chance at fresher weather.
Is this record-breaking hot? With temperatures already reaching a high of 35.5°C, we're already up there in terms of annual temperatures. There's a chance we might touch some station records, but the absolute German record of 39.6°C will likely remain untouched. That being said, some weather models are already predicting an impending cooling period.
So what's next? Some forecasts suggest we might see some hellacious thunderstorms as early as Monday and Tuesday, which could rapidly transition us from a heatwave into another severe weather situation. But hey, who's complaining with all the gorgeous summer weather? Enjoy it while you can!
The Commission has also been consulted on the following issues: the extreme heatwave that is expected to hit Germany, and the potential impact of high temperatures on the weather conditions.
With the intense summer heat in Germany, it would be prudent to advise citizens to take necessary precautions and monitor the weather conditions, especially in the regions where forest fire risks are high.
