German Football Association (DFB) Chooses Blankenhain as New Base Camp

The German Football Association (DFB) has announced that Blankenhain will be its future base camp, marking a significant shift in the organisation's training facilities. This decision was made in light of the upcoming change in the DFB's equipment supplier from Adidas to Nike, which necessitated a new location for the players.

The Weimarer Land Spa & Golf Resort, located in Blankenhain, offers a training facility built to FIFA standards, complete with several grass pitches. This resort has been a popular retreat for footballers, with the English national team, including Bayern star Harry Kane, recovering there during the EM 2024.

The resort's seclusion and retreat options have proven to be crucial for teams, as evidenced by the fact that the hotel and training facilities were used before the home EM. In fact, Harry Kane, a member of the English football national team, has previously stayed at the Weimarer Land Spa & Golf Resort.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann also prepared his squad at the resort before the tournament. The agreement for this new arrangement was signed by DFB CEO Andreas Rettig, Thuringia's Minister President Mario Voigt, and DFB Vice President Hermann Winkler, and is initially designed for six years.

While the DFB will continue to use the DFB campus in Frankfurt as a training quarter, they will not bypass Herzogenaurach until then. Plans for further expansion of the facilities at the Weimarer Land Spa & Golf Resort to meet football requirements have been announced from the resort management.

Furthermore, a functional building, perhaps even an extra hotel, is planned for the resort to accommodate the DFB players. The Thuringian state government may provide funding for this planned expansion, according to Minister President Mario Voigt.

This move by the DFB is expected to boost tourism and the economy of Blankenhain and the surrounding area. The Weimarer Land Spa & Golf Resort is already known for its top-notch facilities and services, making it an ideal choice for the DFB's new base camp.

The DFB's decision to shift their base camp to Blankenhain, where the Weimarer Land Spa & Golf Resort resides, means that footballers might now have an opportunity to combine their training sessions with leisure activities, such as golf. The potential expansion of the resort, including a functional building and possibly an extra hotel, suggests that the resort may aim to become a hub for European football leagues, like the Champions League.
