BlackLine Board Member Tom Unterman Announces Intention to Retire

Tom Unterman has announced plans to retire from the BlackLine Board of Directors. He will step down at the company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders in May 2026. His departure marks the end of a 16-year tenure with the firm.

Unterman joined BlackLine’s board in 2010, playing a key role in its growth. Over the years, he provided strategic guidance and mentorship to the leadership team. Both CEO Owen Ryan and founder Therese Tucker acknowledged his contributions as invaluable.

Following the 2026 meeting, the board will shrink from its current size to 11 directors. While no new candidates have been named yet, shareholder Engaged Capital may put forward nominations. Unterman, however, has stated he will continue supporting the company after his exit. In his remarks, Unterman expressed confidence in BlackLine’s future direction. He described his time on the board as rewarding and thanked colleagues for their collaboration.

The board’s reduction to 11 members will take effect after the May 2026 vote. Unterman’s departure leaves a long-standing position open, though no replacements have been confirmed. His retirement concludes a significant chapter in BlackLine’s governance history.
