Black Women’s Unemployment Hits Four-Year High Amid Economic Slowdown
Unemployment among Black women in the US has climbed to its highest level in four years. The latest figures show a sharp rise from January to September, raising concerns about the wider economy. Economists now see this trend as a key warning sign for the labour market.
The national unemployment rate reached 4.4% in September, reflecting a broader slowdown. But the increase has hit Black women particularly hard. Their jobless rate jumped from 5.4% in January to 7.7% last month.
The latest data highlights a growing gap in unemployment rates across different groups. Black women now face the highest jobless rate since 2019. The figures add pressure on policymakers as economic uncertainty continues to build.
