Scarlett Johansson Speaks Out on Her Marvel Exit: "Natasha's Dead — Let Her Rest!"
Refuses future role as Black Widow character - Black Widow character no longer in consideration for comeback.
For all you Avengers enthusiasts out there, chin up! Scarlett Johansson, the 40-year-old powerhouse behind the superspy Natasha Romanoff (a.k.a. Black Widow), has no plans to reprise her iconic role. In a candid, no-holds-barred chat with InStyle, Johansson set the record straight, leaving little room for doubt: Natasha is gone, folks, and it's time to accept it.
"Natasha's a goner," Johansson stated unequivocally. To hammer the point home, she added with a touch of exasperation: "She's dead. Dead as a doornail. Capisce?" Back in 2019, Black Widow met her heroic demise in "Avengers: Endgame," a sacrifice deemed necessary to save the universe. In 2021's prequel, "Black Widow," Scarlett revisited the role. Since then, fans have been hoping for a miracle, wishing Black Widow would somehow cheat death and return.
The Final Curtain Call for Black Widow?
But alas, fans, your wishes have come up short. Johansson was blunt yet gentle when addressing those who cling to the hope of her return: "They just can't take it in. They say, 'But she could come back!' Listen, I'm telling you it ain't gonna happen, people. We've got to adjust to the new norm. She saved the world. Let her bask in her heroic glory."
Back in November 2022, during a TV interview, Johansson expressed skepticism about a potential Black Widow comeback. "Guess what, it's gonna take a miracle from Marvel HQ. [...] But who knows? I'm not entirely certain," she mused on the U.S. show "Today."
Fast forward to April 2023, and Johansson, in a laidback podcast session with Gwyneth Paltrow (52), also weighed in on her Marvel days being behind her. "The curtain's down. I've done all I needed to do," the Hollywood sensation said, leaving no room for ambiguity.
