Icy roads slow traffic in parts of NRW - Black ice warning paralyzes North Rhine-Westphalia’s roads and highways

A severe weather alert for black ice has been issued across North Rhine-Westphalia. The German Weather Service has placed the region under its second-highest warning level as icy conditions disrupt travel. Winter maintenance teams are now working non-stop to keep roads clear and safe. Black ice has already caused delays on key routes. Traffic is moving slowly on the A3 motorway from Siegburg toward Rhineland-Palatinate. Similar congestion has been reported on the A4 and A45 in Oberbergisches Land and Sauerland. Despite the hazardous conditions, no serious accidents have been recorded so far. The state’s winter service, managed by Straßen.NRW, is coordinating efforts to treat roads and prevent further disruptions. Crews remain on high alert as temperatures stay low. The severe weather warning remains in place for the time being. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly on motorways and untreated roads. Maintenance operations will continue around the clock until conditions improve.
