Icy roads led to dozens of accidents across Upper Palatinate overnight. Hazardous conditions left seven vehicles stranded and forced traffic diversions near Velburg. Emergency crews responded to multiple collisions, including serious crashes on the A3 motorway.

A total of 49 weather-related accidents were reported in the region. Two people suffered serious injuries, while one sustained minor wounds. The worst incidents occurred on the A3 motorway near Neumarkt, where a 47-year-old and an 18-year-old were hurt in a collision.

Black ice is believed to have caused the crash. Another serious accident involved a 47-year-old Chinese man driving a Mercedes. He struck the central barrier near Werneck on the A3, though his name has not been released. Near Velburg, snow-covered detours forced traffic onto the left side of the accident site. The slippery conditions trapped seven vehicles, adding to the disruption.

The overnight chaos left roads blocked and drivers stranded. Authorities continue to investigate the crashes, with black ice as the likely cause. Two people remain in serious condition after the collisions on the A3.
