Winter service in Kiel: Helpers defy snow and ice - Black ice and heavy snow paralyze northern Germany’s roads
Heavy snow and black ice have hit northern Germany, causing difficult driving conditions. Over 140 winter service workers in Schleswig-Holstein are clearing roads, with Kiel deploying 80 small vehicles and 20 trucks. Authorities warn that full operations can only begin once the snow stops falling.

Winter service workers stress the importance of patience and caution in these conditions. Extra crews have been placed on standby due to forecasts of more wintry weather. The teams will fully mobilise once the snow eases, but until then, roads may remain hazardous.
