Black Ferns star Ruahei Demant signs short-term deal with Bristol Bears
Black Ferns co-captain Ruahei Demant will join Bristol Bears on a four-month deal later this month. The move comes as the 2022 World Player of the Year looks to gain experience in Britain before returning to New Zealand for international duty in April. Demant, one of only three players to earn 50 caps for the Black Ferns, will play for Bristol Bears while recovering from her team’s World Cup semifinal loss to Canada in September. The club’s head coach, Scott Lawson, called her a 'genuinely world-class player' and expects her arrival to ease injury concerns within the squad. Demant’s short-term move to Bristol Bears will provide her with high-level competition before her international commitments resume. The Black Ferns will also prepare for the upcoming season under a new head coach, who is set to be appointed by the end of the year.
